The Engagement Department’s endeavors officially kicked-off on September 4, and since then the agenda has been full of meetings and presentations. It is our mission to connect with key stakeholders all around Puerto Rico, from the tourism and private industries, trade organizations, non-profit entities, and the public sector.
From October 22 to October 25, Discover Puerto Rico participated in the Destinations International Membership Summit, which took place in Greater Palm Springs, California. Over 140 professionals from destination marketing organizations in the United States and Canada were thrilled to see the first representative from Puerto Rico join the group.
An interesting takeaway is that most DMO’s are finding ways to transition from a traditional membership model to more open partnership models. We are happy to say that your DMO, Discover Puerto Rico, is ahead of the curve in that its structure was created precisely to be more open, to provide representation—not to a constituency of members, but rather to all of Puerto Rico.
Other several highlights include speaking at the Capitol during the World Tourism Day celebration; coordinating a “round table” talk in Ponce where interested parties from the southern municipalities gathered to share views on tourism; speaking at the Municipal Summit, where over 40 mayors and senators attended and actively declared their support to the DMO; and last but not least, being adventurous in Toro Verde and ziplining from “The Beast”— the longest zipline in the Western Hemisphere — while being live-streamed at DPR’s booth in the IMEX America 2018 trade show in Las Vegas.
